Philippians 3:13,14..."Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus"
Those things, what's wrapped up in those things? Forgetting those things: possessions, stuff, fixations (obsessions, addictions). What's trying to possess our future, by getting us to fixate on the past? Take a moment and think, what's always trying to creep back up to steal your time? Picture yourself reaching for the prize, and that thing is like a bungee cord attached to your arm, that won't allow you to make it. It's time to cut the bungee cord for good! There's to much before us, to let old things get in the way. But things can only hinder us, when we allow it to take up our time. Have you ever heard of glorying in the past? The things may have been good memories or good times, but that was that season and now it's time to walk in a new one. It's like a track star who won 100's of medals as a 20 year old trying to go back and run the same race as a 60 year old, it's dangerous! Why? because the time for that has past! It could be past relationships, jobs, businesses, positions once held, social status, material things lost etc. that we're trying to hold onto. Sometimes letting go is hard. But we must remember that, what God has for us is not behind us, it's ahead of us. Yesterday was just that, former times, whether good or bad, it's yesterday. A key thing about the past is not just forgetting but forgiving! The mistakes we've made and forgiving others offenses toward us. Not letting go can hinder our deliverance, healing, or purpose. Think about what God has in our future, is holding onto yesterday worth missing out on that? Psalm 118:24 This (here and now)is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Don't keep looking back, unless you plan on going that way.
