Good morning fasters!
Hope your fast's are going great! Mine has truly been a blessing! Wanted to share with you some thoughts on Monday's reading(s). Genesis 32 gives us the events that led up to Jacob's encounter with Esau. The two texts that hit me the hardest was verses 10 and 26. Verse 10 says in the CEV, "I don’t deserve all the good things You have done for me, Your servant. When I first crossed the Jordan, I had only my walking stick, but now I have two large groups of people and animals." I can truly relate this text!! Our God just keeps loving us and bestowing upon us gifts even while we are in our sins. AMAZING!!! God blesses you while your on your way to overcoming!! Jacob said when he first crossed over the Jordan he only had a stick. Now's he has increased in community and wealth. But throughout that increase he grew closer to God and surely had to learn some hard lessons. Jacob was not without trial, but now he was getting ready to face perhaps the greatest trial of his life, facing the man whom he tricked, cheated, stole from...his own twin brother. He was not only afraid for his life, but he knew that who he was was the reason that got him in this predicament, which stressed him out even more. So he prayed to God. And what an awesome prayer. So honest and truthful. He asked God to deliver him lest he die at the hands of the mighty Esau. And God answered that prayer. This leads me to the next text that struck me between the eyes. Verse 26 which says in the CEV, "They kept on wrestling until the man said, "Let go of me! It's almost daylight." "You can't go until you bless me," Jacob replied. I love Jacob's tenacity, determination to hold onto God until He receives His blessing. But you know how I read this family? Jacob had gotten to the place where he had no were else to turn, no where else to run to. He was truly facing his fears and troubles and there was no way out. And I submit to you all today that Jacob was tired. Tired of running, tired of lying, tired of not living up to his full potential, tired of being who he was. So for me verse 26 says, "I will not let you go until you change me!" YES!!!! Until you free me from not just from my burdens and distresses, but from myself!!! Make me an overcomer God!! Remove self from me and change me into your image! Create in me a clean new heart and renew a right spirit in me!! This was Jacobs cry, his plea. And at that moment, the Lord changed not just his name, but his mind Do you need a name change today? Well this is why you are in this fasting group. God wants to change your name. And He will, if you let Him.
God Bless,
