Good morning brothers and sisters! Our prayer is that you’re all having successful fasts thus far as we’ve entered into Day 2. Today we wanted to bring your attention to the theme of this fasting group, “Leave It All Behind.” This title comes to us from the Holy Spirit not only as a commandment, but it’s also His vision of what this week will produce in our lives. Leaving it all behind can mean forgetting the past, letting things go, or dropping the dead weights. In a larger sense it implies saying no to the things that we are supposed to say no to.
However the theme applies to you, this can be said for sure: This fast is another move of God to settle the spiritual differences, end conspiracies and treason’s against Him, and remove the treasures that we thought were making us richer but instead they have only made us poorer. In fact, harboring such devices have made us slower, weaker and unstable. Therefore we must shed these “pounds” so that we will no longer be hindered to do the work that God is calling us to do and be who God is calling us to be.
The scripture readings this week are a reflection of the theme as well. Joshua 7 is an indelible story about a man’s sins that affected an entire nation’s relationship with God, not to mention His purposes for their lives. Several events are happening in this chapter, each being intricately connected to one another. The story is driven by underlying causes of failure, which lead to God’s process of elimination and restoration. As you study the record, consider the areas of your life that have been tainted by decisions that you thought were adding value to your life, but have really only caused pain and distress. Consider the impacts that these decisions have had on others around you. Consider the chance that you have right now to bring a cease-fire to a culture of personal habits that have been producing little to no fruit in your lives. Consider what your life will be like once you have been freed from the abominable thing(s) that's controlling you as your master.
But understand that we are not doing this on our own. God is with us. We must allow him to uncover the truth that we did not know. Let Him reveal the “cancer(s)” in our lives. Let Him put an end to the thinking that has resulted in a trail of evil that doesn’t seem like evil to us, but rather a harmless means to a satisfying and prosperous end. May it be clear to that “Leave It All Behind” is about cleansing our minds, bodies and spirit as much as forging a right relationship with God. In addition, establishing meaningful and purer connections with people in our circles.
God Bless and press on family!
